Symantec Brightmail Anti-Spam offers a multi-layered spam protection that combines over 17 different filtering technologies that maximize spam detection, while minimizing false positives. Some of the filters are reputation-based, examining the source of the email. Others sift through the message content, applying signatures or heuristics technology.

Symantec's Brightmail Logistics and Operations Center (BLOC) monitors spam for over 300 million email users worldwide, ensuring accuracy through use of real-time methods to identify spam through an expansive Probe Network™ and fast response to customer-reported false positives. Located in the United States, Ireland, Australia, and Taiwan, the BLOC supports daily monitoring of accuracy, automatic review of all potential false positives, automated rule generation, probe network management, spam research and more.

Fully integrated with the IronPort email security system, Symantec Brightmail Anti-Spam is an "install and walk away" solution. Deployed at the gateway, the solution scans incoming and outbound email for spam and automatically takes the actions specified by the security administrators during setup.

Automatic secure updates every 5-10 minutes 24x7 provide effective defence against the latest spam threats. Over 60,000 new rules per day are downloaded to the IronPort email security system. Updated filters are automatically deployed, requiring no administrator intervention.
